Instructions:
Internet with VPN Service
VPN Only Service

Whether you are using Stargate as your ISP or another and wish to utilize the VPN, please follow the appropriate instructions below.

Internet With VPN Service

  • Use a browser to connect to http://isdhelpdesk.upmc.edu/VPNall/default.htm  (you must be connected to the UPMC network to access this web site)
  • Read the information on this page and complete step 1 in the section labeled: Information for Staff/Requesting a VPN account.
  • Return to http://isdhelpdesk.upmc.edu/VPNall/default.htm  Step 3. If you received approval from your manage in step 1, and you don't already have a connection to the Internet, then select from Stargate's available products.
  • Step 4. Concurrent with the previous step, ask your manager to complete the Remote Connectivity Trust Agreement – VPN and the VPN Request form by clicking on the link in the section labeled: Information For Managers/Quick Links/VPN Request Form. This step will trigger the process required to issue you an RSA token (fob) that will be referenced each time you use the VPN. Your manager will be instructed to print out the Remote Connectivity Trust Agreement – VPN for your signature. Be sure that the form is faxed to UPMC ISG according to the instructions on the agreement. Your manager should then click the URL link found at the top of the Remote Connectivity Trust Agreement – VPN form. This link will display the VPN Request Form. Your manager should complete the form AND in the "additional information" section type the following: "This request is for the EXTERNAL Stargate VPN offering." Have your manager submit the form.
  • Once UPMC ISG receives your signed Remote Connectivity Trust Agreement – VPN form (via fax) and the electronic VPN Request Form they will issue and RSA token under your name and notify you of how and when to pick it up.
  • After obtaining your RSA token, use a browser and connect back to Stargate at http://www.stargate.net/upmc/ . Read the information on this page as well as the frequently asked questions for more details on Stargate's VPN offering.
  • Next, visit the product section to learn about Stargate's Internet access products available to you. Under the heading "Internet With VPN Service" select either Stargate Dial-Up (for 56k modem access) or broadband (for high-speed DSL) services. Both pages have links to sign up for the type of service you select.
  • When the Stargate ISP service installation has been completed and you have tested the service, return to the Stargate web site to download, install and configure the VPN Client software. Follow the explicit instructions provided on the web page. Links are provide on this page to assist you if you encounter and problems during the installation process. Note that the installation process may vary slightly depending on your computer's operating system (i.e., Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, MacOS, etc).
  • In the event that the installation and configuration process fails, contact Stargate at 1-800-734-3717 for additional assistance.

 

VPN Only Service

  • Use a browser to connect to http://isdhelpdesk.upmc.edu/VPNall/default.htm  (you must be connected to the UPMC network to access this web site)
  • Read the information on this page and complete step 1 in the section labeled: Information for Staff/Requesting a VPN account.
  • Return to http://isdhelpdesk.upmc.edu/VPNall/default.htm  Step 3. If you received approval from your manage in step 1, and you don't already have a connection to the Internet, then select from Stargate's available products.

  • If you already have a connection to the Internet (via Stargate or an independent ISP) then skip to the next step. While your request for an RSA token is being processed, you can begin the process of obtaining a connection to the Internet. Contact a local ISP and make arrangements for installation of one of the Supported connection types found on the VPN options matrix.
  • When your independent ISP notifies you that the installation has been completed, and you have tested the service according to their test procedures, then return to the Stargate/UPMC web site to download, install, and configure the VPN Client software. Follow the explicit instructions provided on the web page. Links are provided on this page to assist you if you encounter and problems during the installation process. Note that the installation process may vary slightly depending on your computer's operating system (i.e., Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, MacOS, etc).
  • In the event that the installation and configuration process fails, contact Stargate at 1-800-734-3717 for additional assistance.
  • If the Stargate help desk agent determines that the problem is related to your independent ISP, then you will be instructed to contact their respective help desk for additional assistance.
